MODERN & MINDFUL MANNERS COACHING
FOR CHILDREN & YOUNG ADULTS
It’s the little things that count, a simple thank you, a firm handshake, looking a person in the eyes when speaking with them; basic civility in this increasingly busy and complicated world. Main Street Manners goes beyond use of knife and fork as it shows that all interactions are meaningful - in school, at home, on Main Street and beyond.
By grounding our coaching in continual awareness of kindness and respect, civility and fairness, honesty and empathy, good manners are learned mindfully and more permanently. The format is flexible and interactive, meeting each age group where they are developmentally and emotionally.
Main Street Manners is perfect for those in grade school thru high school and beyond. Coaching is suitable for schools, clubs, churches and professional organizations.
WHO WE ARE
Main Street Manners was created by Rebecca Bahr. Rebecca has always been a keen observer of social interactions and has long understood the value of good manners and gaining confidence at an early age. She is a well-seasoned parent of three adult children, all of whom have excellent manners, which serve them well as they navigate their lives.
Rebecca holds a certificate to teach Manners and Etiquette to children and young adults from the Emily Post Institute in Burlington, Vermont. Main Street Manners is the intersection of time-honored traditions and new best practices. With her wisdom, knowledge and perspective Rebecca works to encourage and inspire those she works with to see themselves as citizens of the world in a mindful way.
OUR PHILOSOPHY
Main Street Manners coaching is different from other etiquette programs as it is fun, interactive and engaging. Through lively discussion between Rebecca and participants, individuals discover appropriate behaviors and understand their value. Learning manners in a modern mindful way is to to acknowledge that words and actions have an effect on others; these are life-long skills.
A myriad of topics can be addressed as the program can be structured to meet particular needs for individuals, schools, families and other groups.
Ideally we work with groups of 4 - 8 participants, with best results in three 45 to 60 minute sessions.
Main Street Manners is perfect for those in grade school through high school and beyond. Coaching is also suitable for clubs, churches, scouting groups, dancing schools, teams and other social organizations.
Group Coaching
Students meet in small groups.
They engage in games that show them that manners are a fun way to express themselves.
They experience greater feelings of belonging and connection.
One-on-One Coaching
These are interview training sessions.
They are for students who are applying to private and boarding schools and need to be prepared for the interview process they will face.
Sessions are one hour long; results are achieved in two to four sessions.
"Through Rebecca’s service to our Youth of the Year Program three of our members became finalists. She helped make a huge impact on the lives of our young people.”
— F. Trunzo Chunga, Executive Director, Glen Cove Boys & Girls Club
The Main Street Manners Difference
We believe that for students, learning good manners is like learning how to play a game.
And it makes them feel like winners.
Like any good game, each element builds on the previous ones, so participants continually discover the joys of communication. And what they learn is reinforced through engagement with peers.
Ours are a fast-paced series of games, so no one gets bored or distracted.
They will get it. They experience the joy of good manners.
And they see that it’s just plain fun.
"I really liked working with Mrs. Bahr. She incorporated fun stuff and made the class interesting instead of a strict. It helped me remember how to behave at the dinner table.”
— Sam, age 14, Syosset, NY
“We engaged Main Street Manners to work with our two active sons and we were impressed with the results. They wanted to know when she is coming back!”
— Sarah A, Laurel Hollow, NY
